Designed during my 10-week internship with the Starbucks Creative Studio, this Reserve card was created to label and represent the bean-to-cup story behind small-lot Guatemala Yaxbatz Estate coffee, roasted at the Seattle Roastery and sold in Reserve Stores across the US and Canada.

Yaxbatz, the name of the farm, means “land of the monkeys” in Q'eqchi', the indigenous language of the region, which informed the main concept of my design. The bright colors and geometric forms I used were inspired by the beautiful woven textiles of the area, the rainforest, and the citrus notes of the coffee.

I first sketched the art with marker and paper, and (a few iterations later) traced it in Adobe Illustrator. After some color explorations, I added textural details in Photoshop and hand-drew the outlines that would later become foil. The custom type was modified to mirror the bent tails of the monkeys in the artwork.
